First off: swine flu. I'm sure everyone and their mother has heard about the pandemic sensation that's sweeping the nation (and basically the world by now). Health organizations worldwide have been leaping on this and alternating between calming the people by saying they've got it under control and scaring the crap out of them by saying it's uncontainable like some sort of bipolar fire alarm. Meanwhile, schools have been getting shut down for a thorough scouring if so much as a mouse with the sniffles stumbles in, people I don't even know are passing me hand sanitizer at lunch, and people are preparing for the end of the world as we know it.

I can't be the only one who thinks this is all rather stupid. Swine flu has killed only 1 person out of almost 500 infected in the US. The regular flu kills 36,000 per year out of 200,000 hospitalized in the US. Ergo, swine flu hasn't shown itself to be nearly as deadly as the regular flu. The sooner everyone stops talking about this, the better.
